Artist Statement: There is nothing I find more annoying than social constructs and beauty standards. There is nothing I find more impressive or cool than people challenging those constructs. I buzzed off my hair as a rebellious act against these unspoken societal scaffolds to have a fresh look on life and myself. I want this piece to reflect the beauty of being unique and true to yourself, however that looks. Si vous voulez être jolie translates from french to English; “if you want to be pretty.” By adding a cutout of the word happy and placing it on top of the word pretty I hope to awaken thoughts within the viewer of where they find their own self-worth. To brush the dust off their old ideals and turn to a fresh new page.

Artist Bio: Savannah Liddicoat is a 23 year old upcoming Australian artist currently studying Fine Arts and French at Brigham Young University.
